Josephine Dellow is a talented Sheffield illustrator who creates fun and uplifting illustrations - and the chances are you already own something with her work on it.
Let's find out a bit more about her . . .
Hi Josephine, thanks for taking part in this mini interview.
First up, how did you become an illustrator and how long have you been doing it?
I always loved drawing as a child, so I guess I started then! But I first illustrated professionally when I graduated from uni in 2011 and got a work placement at a greetings card company.
I worked in that industry for several years and in that time, I also studied for an MA in Children's Book Illustration and took a screen printing course.
I started making art to sell in 2016 and after a few years, I left the greetings industry to work on my own illustration full time.
How long have you been a part of the Sheffield Makers Winter Gardens team?
It was 2019 when I joined. I'm very proud to be a stockist in this gorgeous shop!
I see you’ve worked with a range of exciting clients from the BBC to the NHS. What’s your favourite piece of work that you’ve created or been involved with?
The piece I like most is usually the last thing I've worked on, which I hope means I'm slowly evolving and improving over time.
It was a unique project to illustrate the murals for the radiology department at Sheffield Royal Hallamshire, it is gratifying to see them fill such a big space.
I've been told by friends and followers that they are a comfort they are to see when they find themselves going for an X-ray, which is lovely to hear!
So we know you as an illustrator, but what’s one thing we might not know about you?
I originally studied Fashion Design at uni, but I changed courses after I had a lightbulb moment and realised that all I wanted to do was draw!
What’s your favourite thing about being an illustrator?
That I can be my own boss and earn a living doing something I love, in my favourite place (home!) - ok that's three things!
And finally, toes for fingers or fingers for toes?!
Fingers for toes please, maybe then I could get twice as much work drawing done (assuming I can only draw with the right-handed ones!)
